PENNIES FOR PATIENTS
The results are in, Catholic East has raised $1,700.00
which will be donated to the Lukemia & Lymphoma Society!
THANKS SCHOLARS FOR YOUR GENEROSITY,
KINDNESS AND EFFORT TOWARDS THIS CAUSE.
Catholic
East Elementary will be participating in Pennies
for Patients. It is a fundraiser to benefit the
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We will be collecting
throughout the month of January with a strong
emphasis on Catholic Schools Week. Our scholars in
grades 3 –8 will be tracking their individual
classroom collected amounts and our scholars at our
Holy Rosary Campus will conduct a
communal collection.
Since 1994, millions of
dollars have been raised in pennies and spare
change by more than 10 million elementary, middle
and high school students throughout the country.
Catholic East has
been personally touched by this disease and we have
been praying for Lucia our K4 student.
Students throughout the
country are collecting pennies, nickels, dimes, and
quarters during the Pennies for Patient Campaign.
The classroom collecting the most change will
receive a pizza
party.
Check your pockets, purses,
cars and even those couches for
spare change. Everyone is a Winner!!!!

CHRISTMAS CANTATA: FINISHED BUT NOT
FORGOTTEN

With months of preparation, the students and staff
of Catholic East, have once again, put on an
unbelievably wonderful Christmas program.
The beautiful attire and the incredible
amount of patience shown by our youngsters created
a pristine atmoshphere for our performance.
Our
audience was polite and appreciative during the
program. The singing was amazing— especially given
the fact that the songs were quite complicated and
there were many verses to learn.
Mr. Zaffiro did an outstanding job of preparing our
scholars, with help from our teachers.
And the social gathering following, with many
wonderful treats baked by volunteer parents, was a
great time for fellowship among those that
attended!
CATHOLIC EAST RECOGNIZED AT LUNCHEON

Catholic East was honored to attend a luncheon at
Miller Park which was hosted by the Metro Milwaukee

Our school was recognized for its performance and
involvement with the Schools that Can organization

Father Brian Mason and our third and fifth grade teachers, Mr. Menz and

were therefore, recognized for the school’s efforts
to promote educational initiatives in the

Opens on Oakland Avenue
Catholic East opened its state-of-the-art campus
dedicated to Grades K3 through Grade 2 on Aug. 30,
the first day of the 2011-12 school year.
"What a thrill it was to welcome our children and
parents into this beautifully renovated, historic
school," Principal Gail Kraig said. "We especially
are very thankful for our lead benefactor, Dr. Sue
Ewens."
This new campus is located at 2038 N. Bartlett Ave.
- about five blocks from what has become our Grades
3-8 SS. Peter and Paul Campus at 2461 N. Murray
Ave.

office space in the 1980s, was completely
renovated. The original hardwood floors and
staircase were refurbished. An elevator was
installed.
Catholic East Students Excel on WKCEs
Catholic East students as a whole outperform state
averages in reading and language arts in recent
statewide standardized tests.
Catholic East also outperformed the comparable
Milwaukee Public School and Milwaukee Parental
Choice Program averages in all subjects tested,
according to a recent Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
report based on state statistics.
The tests are known as the WKCEs, or Wisconsin
