Graders Celebrate Three Kings Day

For
el Día de los Tres Reyes Magos( three Kings
day) students in Mrs. Hayes’ Spanish class
learned about the importance of this day for
those of Hispanic/ Latino culture. Our fourth
and fifth graders were treated with a guest
speaker who came to the class and shared the
customs of those of Puerto Rican heritage on
this special holiday. The students
watched a video, listened to the speaker talk
about her childhood and her family traditions,
and were given the opportunity to try some
traditional Puerto Rican
foods, arroz con dulce ( a dish similar to rice
pudding), and Florecitas, a flower shaped
cookie similar to a wafer cookie with frosting.
Eighth Graders have a Good Altitude

The
8th grade class researched
aerodynamics and friction to learn a thing or
two about how airplanes fly.
Each group composed a three page paper
based on their findings.
With this information, they designed
their own planes out of paper and cardboard.
To test the efficiency of
their models, they held an airplane drop from
the roof of the school.
Each design proved different in the
length of time it stayed in the air.
This was a fun and engaging way for students to
apply what they had learned.
Excel-A-Thon Team Places Second
Our 5th grade Excel-A-Thon team
won second place last spring in an annual academic competition
sponsored by Divine Savior Holy Angels High School.
Our winning team competed again
other 4-girl 5th grade teams in tests in several
subject areas.
More than 500 girls grades 5-8
from Archdiocese of Milwaukee Catholic schools
competed at the event.

LOOKING FOR A NEW CHRISTMAS COOKIE
RECIPE? The
6th grade class created a Power
Point presentation, to showcase a science
experiment where they were asked to design
their own cookie recipe.
Each group baked their creation and then
tested their skills in making observations and
inferences.
